The voice of a Mac can come from two sources. One is the VoiceOver utility, which is part of the standard accessibility features, and the other is the alert notification in the Dictation and Speech category of System Preferences. If you don’t like the default reader, you can change the voice in your Control Panel. Go to Settings > Control Panel > Ease of Access > Speech Recognition Click on Text to Speech in the left hand side of the window. Voices is a command line tool for changing the default text-to-speech voice. But the author of the tool warns that: As of macOS 10.12 (Sierra), there is no documented programmatic way to change the default voice.
There was a setting OSX Yosemite where you could change your dication voice and speed. Does anyone know how to find those settings on macs latest macOS Sierra?
This follows the same convention as the command line method in that the default voice is whatever you set your Mac’s text-to-speech voice option to, you can always change that in the Speech preference pane.
I have looked under keyboard where there are dictation settings but that seems to be you speaking to your computer and it typing it out.
Also looked at accessibility and Voice over settings but not what I am looking for.
The Default voice was Alex and there is a speak back speed that you can change.
